Capella Telluride
FEATURE ARTICLE: MOUNTAIN VILLAGE HOTEL DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS

Been to Mountain Village lately? If so, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the ample construction going on as several large hotel projects are presently in the works. All are in different phases, but moving right along and paving the way for the exciting inevitable…a plethora of top-notch vacation lodging facilities to choose from when visiting the area.
Capella Telluride: Located on Lot 50/51 in the Mountain Village Center, Capella Telluride has made significant progress this summer. The exterior façade is virtually complete and a model unit will be completed by Christmas 2007. Additionally,furniture/finish packages will be ready by the start of 2008. Upon completion, the five-star, uber-luxury hotel will consist of 148 units ranging from hotel condominiums (two, three and four bedrooms) to studio hotel rooms, as well as one-and two-bedroom hotel rooms. The hotel will feature an opulent world-class spa, fitness center, two restaurants, a wine bar, private lounge and ice skating rink. Projected grand opening is for Christmas/New Year’s 2008/2009.
Rosewood Telluride: Located on Country Club Drive adjacent to the first tee box of the Telluride Golf Course, Rosewood just submitted its development agreement and expects to pull its building permit this fall.
Lumière: Lumière, located in the Mountain Village Center on Lost Creek Lane at the base of Boomerang ski run, is in the heat of construction with the steel framing almost complete and the roof going on in October. Fourteen of the 19 condominiums have already sold, with the remaining five residences being released for purchase this winter. Scheduled completion for the small, boutique hotel is estimated for June 2008.
Silverline: Located in the Mountain Village Center, across from the gondola station, the 300,000-plus-square-foot hotel and condominium development is awaiting approvals. In September, Monument Realty, the project’s Washington, D.C.-based developer, submitted an alternate plan to Mountain Village pending review by the Design Review Board. The new plan is a back-up should the heated rec center fail in the upcoming October 22 special election.
The Peaks: After a rather tumultuous summer of construction starting and then halting; and a likely sale after relatively new owners, the Blackstone Group, promised a hefty remodel, the Peaks Resort is figuring out its future. In September, Fairmont Hotels and Resort took the lead in a civilized bidding war for the property. The company’s $50-plus million offer put it ahead of up to a dozen other interested parties by as much as $15 to $20 million. Nothing has been decided as of yet, but it appears that either Fairmont, or one if its investment partners could likely end up as the new owners of the Mountain Village resort. The company already manages the Franz Klammer Lodge and has luxury hotels from Bermuda to New York City. Additionally, the Peaks reopened its adored Golden Door Spa at the start of September after a substantial remodel led by the prominent architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
