Sometimes people want to come on vacation and not have to pay for luxury accommodations; Mountain Village is looking to heed that call.
At a Mountain Village Design Review Board Meeting in September, initial Planned Unit Development sketch plans for a “reasonably priced” Mountain Village hotel were presented. The proposed project consists of 55 lodge units, 70 hotel efficiency units and eight employee apartments, and is being proposed for Lots 89-A, 109, 110, and OS3-BR. If approved, the hotel would be located on Mountain Village Boulevard, just past Country Club Drive at the northeastern edge of the Village Center.
“This is a moderately priced hotel, which we feel is lacking in Mountain Village,” said Mollye Wolahan of Community Development Resources, LLC, the firm representing Juno Development of Dallas, Texas in the application process. “This is a really exciting project. The architects have done just a fabulous job with the development team.”
The hotel is slated to include a restaurant/bar, coffee shop, administrative offices, lobby/gallery, ski storage and spa/fitness facility. The sketch plan application is in the third of five public hearings of the PUD process. After sketch approval, the developer must get the final plan approved by the DRB, followed by the final approval of the town council. The goal is to create an alternative to the five-star norm in Mountain Village and hopes are that even with the tremendous influx of new hotels in Mountain Village, that this more affordable option will be regarded as unique and, in turn, well received.
