TELLURIDE SKI RESORT CONTINUES TO OPEN NEW TERRAIN
Gold Hill 6-10 Opens in March
Due to stunning snow conditions and a determined ski patrol, the Telluride Ski Resort announced even more skiable terrain that opened to the public in late March. Gold Hill Chutes 6-10 opened Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Previously an out of bounds area, the additional terrain is accessible via the Gold Hill Lift (Lift 14). From the summit of the chair, expert skiers and boards then hike out the backcountry access gate, following the appropriately marked signage, in order to reach the precipitous chutes. The area sits against the dramatic backdrop of Palmyra Peak and offers even more backcountry experiences within the ski area boundary. Gold Hill Chutes 1- 5 are not open for public use.
“The Gold Hill 6-10 opening expands on more one-of-a-kind, unique, big mountain terrain here in Telluride,” said Dave Riley, CEO of the resort. “Our ski patrol has worked extremely hard to continually extend the Gold Hill ridgeline for the enjoyment of our skiers and boarders.”
The new terrain expounds on the never-before-accessible Palmyra Peak and Black Iron Bowl, open since January. Gold Hill 6-10 features chutes and Alps-style runs, perfect for advanced skiers/boarders.
“Gold Hill 6-10 is both challenging and exceptionally beautiful,” said Riley. “We are truly excited to offer our guests even more backcountry experiences within the ski area boundary”
Telluride’s new program is an excellent addition to the existing in-bounds hike-to areas of Palmyra Peak, Black Iron Bowl, and Bald Mountain, where expert skiers and boarders can enjoy fresh tracks virtually all season long.
Gold Hill 6-10 will be open as long as weather and conditions permit. For more information call (970) 728-7423 or visit www.tellurideskiresort.com.
